When Will I Get Married? Marriage Timing by Dasha
Shaadi kab hogi: how Jyotish reads the dasha for marriage, step by step
Updated
When will I get married according to dasha? In Vedic astrology marriage is read as a window, not a date. The window usually opens in a mahadasha or antardasha of a planet linked to the 7th house (the house of marriage): the 7th lord, a planet sitting in or aspecting the 7th, or Venus and Jupiter, the natural significators of marriage. A Jupiter transit over the 7th house or its lord often shapes the exact year. Nothing here promises a date, and your whole chart decides.
The short answer: which dashas are linked to marriage?
| Planet running the dasha | Why tradition looks at it |
|---|---|
| Lord of the 7th house | Rules the house of spouse and partnership. The most direct marriage indicator. |
| Planets in or aspecting the 7th house | They carry the 7th house’s results in their own periods. |
| Venus | The natural significator (karaka) of love, marriage and the spouse, especially in a man’s chart. |
| Jupiter | The natural significator of the husband in a woman’s chart, and a benefic that blesses the 7th house it touches. |
| Lord of the 2nd and 11th houses | The 2nd is family life, the 11th is fulfilment of wishes. Both support a union taking shape. |
| Lord of the 5th house | Romance and commitment; relevant for love marriages. |
| Navamsa (D9) lagna lord and 7th lord | The Navamsa chart is the chart of marriage; its key planets are checked alongside the birth chart. |
Periods of planets that rule the 6th, 8th or 12th houses without any link to the 7th are traditionally read as less supportive for a wedding, though other life events can happen in them.
How to read your own marriage timing in five steps
- Find your Lagna and the 7th house. Count seven signs from your ascendant. The planet that rules that sign is your 7th lord. A free Kundli shows both.
- Note who sits in or aspects the 7th house, and where Venus and Jupiter are placed (house, sign, dignity).
- Look at the Navamsa. See the lord of the Navamsa 7th house and the planet placed there. In the Jaimini method the Darakaraka (the planet at the lowest degree) is also checked.
- List your dashas. The dasha calculator gives each mahadasha and antardasha with dates. Mark the ones belonging to the planets from steps 1 to 3.
- Add the transits. Many astrologers look for Jupiter transiting, or aspecting, the 7th house or its lord during that dasha, with Saturn’s position also considered. Where the dasha and the transit agree, the window is considered stronger.
A worked example
Take someone with Gemini (Mithuna) as the Lagna. The 7th sign from Gemini is Sagittarius, ruled by Jupiter, so Jupiter is the 7th lord. For such a chart the Jupiter mahadasha is a natural place to look, and so are the antardashas of Jupiter inside other mahadashas, for example Venus mahadasha, Jupiter antardasha or Mercury mahadasha, Jupiter antardasha. Venus periods are also noted as the natural significator. The exact dates still depend on that person’s own dasha table. This is an illustration of the method, not a prediction for any sign.
Dashas people often search for
- Venus mahadasha (20 years): the longest period, strongly tied to relationships. See Venus–Venus and Venus–Jupiter.
- Jupiter mahadasha (16 years): often supportive of commitment and family. See Jupiter–Venus and Jupiter–Jupiter.
- Saturn periods: Saturn is slow and deliberate, and is often connected with later or more considered marriages. See Saturn–Venus and Saturn–Jupiter.
- Mars, Rahu and Ketu periods: they matter when they are connected to the 7th house. See Mars–Venus and Rahu–Venus.
All 81 combinations are on the mahadasha and antardasha index.
If marriage seems delayed
Tradition lists a few common reasons an astrologer may call timing “late”: Saturn or Mars influencing the 7th house or its lord, the 7th lord in a difficult house, or the running dasha having no link to the 7th house for a long stretch. These describe pace and priorities, not a closed door. The same chart can describe a long, steady partnership as easily as a delayed one, and the old texts stress that character, choices and family circumstances count for as much as planets.
Compatibility is a separate question from timing. For that, see Kundli matching, Mangal dosha and the free AI kundli matching tool.
What this page cannot do
It cannot give you a wedding date, and no honest astrologer can. Dasha and transit show favourable periods, and real-life timing also depends on people, family and circumstances. Use the method to understand the shape of your next few years, not to wait for a date or to feel pressured. To see which of your own dashas are linked to the 7th house, find your current dasha or ask the AI Pandit below.
Frequently asked questions
When will I get married according to dasha?
Vedic astrology reads marriage as a window, not a date. It usually falls in a mahadasha or antardasha of the 7th lord, a planet in or aspecting the 7th house, or Venus or Jupiter, often confirmed by a Jupiter transit over the 7th house or its lord. Your own dasha table and chart decide, and no reading can promise a specific date.
Shaadi kab hogi, kaise dekhein?
Yeh ek samay-khand batata hai, tareekh nahin.
Which dasha is best for marriage?
No dasha is good for marriage by itself. Periods of the 7th lord, planets connected to the 7th house, Venus, Jupiter, and the 2nd and 11th lords are the ones tradition associates with marriage. Their strength depends on the placement and dignity of each planet in your chart.
Can Saturn dasha delay marriage?
Saturn is traditionally linked with slower, more deliberate timing, and Saturn influencing the 7th house or its lord is a common reason astrologers describe later marriage. It is a tendency, not a rule, and many people marry in Saturn periods that are connected to their 7th house.
Does Venus mahadasha mean I will marry?
Venus is the natural significator of marriage, so its periods often bring relationships to the foreground. Whether a wedding happens depends on Venus’s placement, the 7th house and the rest of the chart. It is a supportive period for relationships, not a guarantee.
Can the Navagraha app tell me my marriage date?
No. It shows your mahadasha and antardasha dates and your chart, so you can see which periods are linked to the 7th house, and the AI Pandit can explain them in plain language. It does not predict a wedding date.
