Jupiter in Capricorn (Makara)

Guru in Makara rashi — Vedic meaning and effects

Updated 8 October 2026

Jupiter in Capricorn (Makara) is debilitated (neecha), most so at 5° of the sign. It tends to give a practical, cautious and sometimes sceptical approach to wisdom, with growth coming through effort and responsibility; neecha bhanga (cancellation) can turn it into disciplined, hard-won strength.

Jupiter in Makara (Capricorn): meaning

Makara is a movable earth sign ruled by Saturn, who regards Jupiter as neutral. It is the sign opposite Cancer, where Jupiter is exalted, so Capricorn is Jupiter's debilitation sign, deepest at 5°. The expansive, faith-centred planet is placed in the sign of structure, limits and realism. Optimism meets caution, and belief meets duty. Debilitation does not mean a lack of wisdom; it points to wisdom that is earned slowly through responsibility and often becomes mature in later life.

Neecha bhanga is the traditional cancellation. Common conditions include the lord of Capricorn (Saturn) or the lord of Cancer, where Jupiter is exalted (the Moon), being in a kendra from the Lagna or Moon, or an exalted planet supporting Jupiter. When it applies, Jupiter can give strong results, sometimes called Neecha Bhanga Raja Yoga. Whether it applies requires full chart analysis.

When Jupiter transits Capricorn

Jupiter spends about a year in Makara. Traditional reading is from your Moon sign, with the 2nd, 5th, 7th, 9th and 11th favoured. That year is often described as one of discipline, career effort and realism rather than easy luck, but the natal chart and dasha refine everything.

Remedies

Traditional approaches include Thursday observances, honouring teachers, charity and cultivating faith through steady practice. Service to the elderly is also mentioned. A yellow sapphire is not casually advised for a debilitated Jupiter and should be considered only after a full chart review.

The sign is only part of the story: the house Jupiter occupies, its aspects and your dasha decide how it plays out. See where Jupiter sits in your own chart.
