How Angarak Yoga forms

Mars and Rahu together in the same sign. Angaraka, "the glowing coal", is a name of Mars. Some teachers extend the term to Mars with Ketu, or to aspects between Mars and Rahu, and a conjunction within a few degrees is considered stronger. It is a widely used later label rather than a named yoga in the best-known classical texts.

Effects of Angarak Yoga

Rahu amplifies whatever it joins, and with Mars it amplifies energy, ambition and competitiveness. The traditional cautions are about impatience, a quick temper, impulsive decisions and conflict with siblings, colleagues or rivals, and texts advise care with haste, fire, machinery and confrontation. The house involved shows where this intensity is most felt.

Channelled well, the same energy gives courage, technical skill and the drive to take on hard tasks, and the combination is often seen in engineering, sport, defence, surgery, technology and competitive business. A dignified Mars, Jupiter's aspect and a strong Lagna lord are said to turn it constructive.

What strengthens or softens it

How common is Angarak Yoga?

Mars and Rahu share a sign in about one chart in twelve. Mars moves much faster than Rahu, so it occurs in short runs of several weeks at a time.

Examples

Mars and Rahu together in Capricorn, with Mars exalted, in the 10th house is a form often read as drive in a career. Mars and Rahu together in Cancer, with Mars debilitated, in the 4th house is read as restlessness around home and property.

When Angarak Yoga gives results

It is said to be most active in the Rahu mahadasha with Mars antardasha and the Mars mahadasha with Rahu antardasha.

A yoga is read together with the whole chart: the dignity of the planets, the houses they rule for your Lagna, and the dasha running. Houses here are whole-sign houses counted from the Lagna, as in the Navagraha app. Make your free Kundli to see where these planets sit in your own chart.

Frequently asked questions

What is Angarak Yoga?

It is the conjunction of Mars and Rahu in the same sign. Tradition links it with intensified drive and courage, and with cautions around temper, haste and risk-taking.

Is Angarak Yoga the same as Mangal dosha?

No. Mangal dosha depends on Mars's house (traditionally the 1st, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th, with some including the 2nd) and is checked mainly for marriage. Angarak Yoga is Mars joined by Rahu, in any house.

What are the traditional remedies for Angarak Yoga?

Commonly mentioned practices include worship of Lord Hanuman on Tuesdays, the Mars and Rahu mantras, and channelling energy into sport or disciplined physical work. Gemstones are best considered only after a full chart review.
