Karva Chauth 2026 moonrise outside India

Outside India the date can fall a day earlier or later than in Delhi, because the Chaturthi tithi has to be running at that city's moonrise. The table gives each city's own date.

Which day is Karva Chauth in 2026?

Karva Chauth is on Krishna Chaturthi of the Kartik month (northern calendar), the fourth day after the full moon, and is observed on the day Chaturthi is running when the Moon rises. In New Delhi Chaturthi runs 29 Oct 1:07 AM – 29 Oct 10:11 PM, which covers moonrise at 8:12 PM on 29 October.

How the day runs

• Before sunrise: many observers eat the pre-dawn meal (sargi) before the fast starts at sunrise (6:31 AM in New Delhi).
• Evening: the Karva Chauth katha is heard and the puja is done around sunset (5:39 PM in New Delhi).
• At moonrise (8:12 PM in New Delhi): the Moon is seen through a sieve or from the terrace, arghya is offered, and the fast is broken. Allow a few minutes for the first sighting.

Karva Chauth and your partner's chart

Karva Chauth is a day about a relationship. If you want to look at the relationship itself, the two charts together say more than the festival: Kundli matching (Ashtakoot, 36 gunas) compares the Moon signs and nakshatras of two people, and the Navagraha app can read both charts side by side and answer your questions about timing together. It describes tendencies and does not guarantee any outcome.

How the times are calculated

Moonrise, sunrise and sunset come from the Sun and Moon's positions for the city's latitude and longitude, and the Chaturthi tithi boundaries from their longitudes (sidereal zodiac, Lahiri ayanamsa). Nothing is copied from another almanac. How we calculate.

Moonrise is calculated for each city's coordinates (upper limb, standard refraction). Hills, buildings, haze or cloud can delay the first sighting by several minutes, so treat the time as the earliest moment. Follow your family's custom and your priest's calendar. This is traditional astrology and observance, not medical advice: anyone who should not fast (pregnancy, illness, medication) should not feel obliged to.
